Suicide Prevention – Didi Hirsch’s 21st annual Alive & Running 5K Walk/Run for Suicide Prevention on Sunday, Sept. 29

Hey there,

I wanted to reach out and let you know that our team will be participating in the 4th annual Alive & Running 5K Walk/Run for Suicide Prevention. This event holds a special place in our hearts as we remember my father Ron Smolnisky, who we tragically lost. It’s my hope that no one ever feels as hopeless and alone as my dad did that fateful night when he took his own life.

It’s alarming to see that suicide rates have increased by over 30% across different age groups, genders, ethnicities, and financial statuses. In 2018 alone, more than 47,000 Americans lost their lives to suicide, surpassing the number of deaths caused by car accidents or homicide. What’s even more startling is that for every suicide, around 30 people attempt to take their own lives.

That’s why I invite you to join us in supporting Didi Hirsch’s 21st annual Alive & Running 5K Walk/Run for Suicide Prevention on Sunday, Sept. 29. This event plays an integral role in funding Didi Hirsch’s Suicide Prevention Center, which is not only the first but also the most comprehensive center of its kind in the United States. They provide a lifeline of healing and hope, welcoming anyone impacted by suicide, regardless of their financial situation.

Your support can truly make a difference:

  • By training crisis counselors for their 24/7 multilingual Crisis Line, we can save lives and offer support during difficult times.
  • Together, we can strengthen the safety net by educating students, teachers, parents, firefighters, police officers, and mental health professionals on how to recognize and respond to warning signs effectively.
  • Let’s provide healing by expanding therapy and support groups for survivors of suicide attempts and loss, especially focusing on teenagers who have been affected by suicide.
  • By partnering with university researchers and advancing the field, we can develop and test new programs that help prevent future tragedies.

Established in 1958, Didi Hirsch’s Suicide Prevention Center has been instrumental in shaping suicide prevention strategies used by centers across the United States and around the world. To meet the growing demand for their services, they recently relocated to a new facility in Century City. Since then, they’ve helped countless individuals who sought help after seeing their sign.

With your generous support, we can continue saving lives and making a lasting impact. Please take a moment to register, donate, or sponsor our team for Alive & Running today.
